Emberpath Chronicles

Emberpath Chronicles is the kind of mobile RPG that actually trusts you to read. The story about a collapsing border kingdom isn't Shakespeare, but the writing has personality and the side characters stuck with me longer than I expected.

Combat is turn-based with a timing element — nail the tap window during an attack and you get a damage bonus, which keeps battles from going on autopilot. Party composition matters a lot; I rebuilt my whole team around a support healer halfway through and it changed the game entirely.

The one downside is the early grind before your party opens up. Push past the first few hours and it becomes one of the better mobile RPGs I've played this year.
